To make sure we are bringing you only the highest quality products in line with our core values at Sumaq, we have visited and spent time at every stage of the production process.  We have met the farmers and understood how the crops are grown, harvested by hand, and how they are prepared packaged and shipped with immense care to ensure all of the goodness, value and flavour is maintained until you open a packet yourself.

We are very proud to bring you the finest Superfoods from their home.  We have travelled to Peru, met the farmers who are growing the crops, and followed the journey from 4,000 metres above sea level, half way across the world, all the way to Europe.  

Quinoa

  1. Quinoa is one of the most protein-rich foods we can eat. It is a complete protein containing all nine essential amino acids.
  2. Quinoa contains almost twice as much fiber as most other grains. Fiber is most widely known to relieve constipation. It also helps to prevent heart disease by reducing high blood pressure and diabetes. Fiber lowers cholesterol and glucose levels, may lower your risk of developing haemorrhoids and may help you to lose weight as it takes a longer time to chew than does other foods because it makes you feel fuller for longer and is less “energy dense” which means it has fewer calories for the same volume of food.
  3. Quinoa contains Iron. Iron helps keep our red blood cells healthy and is the basis of hemoglobin formation. Iron carries oxygen from one cell to another and supplies oxygen to our muscles to aid in their contraction. Iron also increases brain function because the brain takes in about 20% of our blood oxygen. There are many benefits of iron some more of which include neurotransmitter synthesis, regulation of body temperature, aids enzyme activity and energy metabolism.
  4. Quinoa contains lysine. Lysine is mainly essential for tissue growth and repair.
  5. Quinoa is rich in magnesium. Magnesium helps to relax blood vessels and thereby to alleviate migraines. Magnesium also may reduce Type 2 diabetes by promoting healthy blood sugar control. Other health benefits of magnesium include transmission of nerve impulses, body temperature regulation, detoxification, energy production, and the formation of healthy bones and teeth.
  6. Quinoa is high in Riboflavin (B2). B2 improves energy metabolism within brain and muscle cells and is known to help create proper energy production in cells.
  7. Quinoa has a high content of manganese. Manganese is an antioxidant, which helps to prevent damage of mitochondria during energy production as well as to protect red blood cells and other cells from injury by free radicals.

Lucuma

  1. Native from the Peruvian Amazon, it grows around the basin of the rivers Nanay, Ucayali, Maranon and Tigre
  2. Lucuma has been considered as the delicacy of the incas

Maca

  1. Maca root has many health benefits.  Known for their advanced knowledge of healing and the body’s connection with nature, Incan civilisation used the maca root in many of their natural remedies.
  2. Medicinally the part of the maca root that holds the active nutrients is the flesh of its root.  The root is high in protein, natural sugars, iron, potassium, iodine, magnesium, calcium and fibre.

Golden Berries

  • Golden berries are high in fibre, and iron, which transports oxygen around the body, contributes to normal functioning of the immune system and reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

Cacao Nibs

  1. ‍The name of Cacao has its origin with the Mayas and Aztec cultures and is a perennial crop for the wet tropic areas in all of the oriental fringe of the Andes Mountains and regions of the Amazon basin.
  2. ‍Cacao has a high content of antioxidants; an important source of magnesium and sulphur and improving the metabolism of glucose.
  3. It contains phenyl ethylamine, which can generate a happiness sensation.

Yakon

  1. Some of the health benefits of yacon include it’s ability to regulate blood sugar levels, lower “bad” cholesterol, help with weight loss, lower blood pressure, improve the health of the liver, prevent certain types of cancer, boost digestive health, and strengthen the immune system.
  2. ‍Yacon tubers are mostly composed of fructo oligo saccharides and water.  This means the majority of the carbohydrate sugars can not be digested by the body, resulting in very low calorie level and a prevention of excess sugar coming into the blood stream.
  3.  Yacon also helps the body increase vitamin and mineral absorption of all other foods, so while there aren’t many vitamins and minerals in yacon itself, it is very important for the intake of these essential components of human health

Mesquite

  1. Found mostly on the northern coast of Peru
  2. Its an amazing natural energiser

Camu Camu

Camu Camu alternatively known as Myrciaria Dubia is a nutritiously dense superfruit found in the Amazon Rainforest. Camu Camu is a popular choice not only because it’s one of the highest natural sources of vitamin C but it is also a very good source of magnesium, zinc, copper and iron. It is has been said to provide 56 times more vitamin C than a lemon and 60 times more vitamin C than an orange.  Useful for
